Artist Statement

As humans we have a need to understand and assert order in our world. We like to draw connections between images, seeing only certain aspects of a scene. We notice and remember only the items that have relevance to our lives.
My work plays with this idea. I have taken photographs of seemingly unrelated urban landscapes and given them subtle connections. I have manipulated the images digitally, focusing on certain elements while diluting others
.
The final presentation of these prints is a acrylic gel transfer from an inkjet print on to a 11 1/2 x 18 in. wooden panel. For the final touch, I add paint. Some elements are highlighted and others subdued. The edges are meticulously painted to match the photographs.

Liz Obert

“Liz Obert’s work straddles the ever shrinking line between craft and technology. Under the rich painterly surfaces lies images that have been captured and manipulated digitally to hone their focus and impact. Throughout the series a viewer will discover hidden relationships and repeated images that serve to make subtle connections between seemingly unrelated urban landscapes. Further manipulation of the surface and image through more traditional (painterly) methods gives the work an organic feel that adds to the individual viewers experience of the atmosphere and sense of place explored within the work.”
