Artist Statement

The intersectin of NE Albina and NE Killingsworth

This installation is a metaphorical map the intersection of NE Albina and NE Killingsworth in Portland, OR. It is an illistration of the process of my dialogue with this specific area as reflected through collecting, recording and creating.

The concept of the piece is to relate a sense of place to the viewer by looking solely at the details or micro-images of the area. So often in our everyday life and in scientific study, we tend to focus on the minute details. We become so involved in dissecting the word into fragments, often missing the interconnectedness of the segments. The viewer by means of interacting with this collection will be able to make her/his own interpretation and experience the area by imaginatively recombining my collection of fragments.
